Your skin naturally sheds dead cells, and exfoliation is the process of ridding the skin of this layer of dead skin cells and aiding cell turnover. When this layer of skin is buffed away, fresh new cells surface up, revealing smoother, radiant and healthy skin.
While your skin is equipped to do this naturally, UV and blue light exposure, free radicals from air pollution, dirt and impurities can throw off your skin's natural exfoliation abilities.
Exfoliation is recommended for everyone, and all the more so if you have concerns around acne, blackheads/whiteheads, have particularly oily skin or dry skin, are in your late 20s and up, experience hormonal imbalances and/or environmental stressors.
There are many benefits to exfoliating, including: clearing clogged pores - which will reduce the appearance of large pores, fewer breakouts, improved blood circulation, softer and smoother skin, helps get rid of hyperpigmentation, enhances youthfulness and radiance, and finally, an improved absorption of skincare.
We recommend exfoliating 1-2 times a week, spacing it out accordingly. Tip: fix it on Wednesdays and Sundays weekly!
As your skin gets vulnerable and sensitive post-exfoliation, we recommend to always exfoliate at night before bed, avoiding the sun. Always slather on your serum and moisturiser after, and ensure you wear SPF the next day (as you always should).
Over-exfoliating with a high concentration acids or exfoliating more than 2 times a week may lead to skin irritation or inflammation, redness, bruising, peeling and dryness.
