1. Use a richer cream before bed

Your skin is most absorbent when you’re getting your beauty sleep, so the best time to use your skincare products is while you’re getting all those zzz’s. Slather on your serums and a rich, nourishing night cream to keep your skin moisturised and to lock in all the goodness.

2. Always check the ingredients on your skincare labels.

Some skincare ingredients are toxic for your skin (you’ll be surprised by how many there are in your products!), while you might be unknowingly allergic to others. Avoid these 8 ingredients at all costs: Phthalates, BHTs, Siloxanes A.K.A Silicones, Formaldehyde, PEGs, Triclosan.

3. Get rid of blackheads, whiteheads and dullness with a chemical exfoliant.

Physical exfoliants can cause microtears on your skin (you won’t be able to see them!). As a part of your night routine, use a BHA (such as our Clean Slate exfoliating pads) or AHA exfoliant once or twice a week to buff away dead skin, unclog your pores, brighten and smooth.

4. Sunscreen is just as important indoors.

Blue light from your digital screens (think your mobile phone and laptop) can actually cause early signs of ageing, including wrinkles and dark spots! It’s hard not to use these digital devices every day, so you should protect yourself by wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF30 when you’re indoors too!

5. Keep two sets of pillow cases at home

Are you breaking out on your cheeks, but your daily routine hasn’t changed? Your pillowcases might be the culprit. Wash your pillowcases each week with hot water and a gentle detergent to make sure unwanted dirt or impurities don’t transfer to your skin while you sleep (two sets make for easy weekly changes!).

6. Apply your skincare straight out of the shower.

Your pores are open and most absorbent following a nice warm shower or bath. Slather on your serums and moisturisers immediately after washing up to maximise their effects! Applying skincare while your skin still has some moisture on it actually makes your products absorb better.

7. Cut out dairy if you’re breaking out!

Did you know dairy is one of the top culprits for random acne breakouts? If you have acne-prone skin, try cutting out all dairy products (think milk, yogurt, cheese and cream-based dishes) for two weeks and see if there are any changes to your skin!

8. Step outside for at least 15 minutes

Did you know stress causes a biological change in your body which can make your skin more oily? If you suffer from oily or combination skin, it’s best to take a brisk 15-20 minute walk outside whenever you feel overwhelmed or stressed out. The physical activity will boost your happiness chemicals and combat stress!

9. Stop using coconut oil or mineral oils as masks

Have you ever used coconut oil as a face mask or to moisturise your skin? Stop! The oil can actually clog your pores and could be stressing your skin out more than necessary. If you want more moisture, look for skincare products with hyaluronic acid.

10. Tackle damaging hidden culprits by sticking to a strict skincare routine.

You can’t see pollution but it’s clogging your pores, and is likely giving you more blackheads than usual. To tackle this invisible culprit, wash your face with a gentle cleaner as soon as you get home from a day out, and stick to your day and night skincare routine to repair and renew your skin.
